“Fiddle-de-dee’s not English.”

I’m participating in Dewey’s Weekly Geeks! And procrastinating when it comes to writing actual reviews, as always. This week’s project is to link reviews from other blogs in your review. See Dewey’s post for full details.

I think this is a great idea — I’ve been thinking of doing this but, uh, I have been procrastinating. Also this would be a good way to meet new internet friends. (Hullo! Nice to meet you!)

The list of books I’ve read can be found here: 2007 and 2008. The ones with links are the ones with reviews; the rest of the 2008 books without links are, uh, currently being worked on. Me and my backlog of reviews. You can leave me the links to those books that haven’t been reviewed as well — I’ll link your review from mine once I’ve written it up.

You can leave comments here or at the book’s post. Or anywhere on this blog, really. I’ll update the posts accordingly.

I’m thinking of continuing linking to others’ reviews in the new reviews I will write, so I’m hoping this will go well. :D

OK. I’m skipping writing about the Lymond books, at least for now. I’d probably just flail around and fail to say anything substantive, so my skipping them is justified! Well, not really, but I’ll get back to them sooner or later; I’m bound to read the whole thing again anyway — that’s something I’m completely sure of.

Marzipan — the general Lymond/Dunnett discussion list. I mostly just lurk, but it seems like a friendly group.

The Game of Kings — this one is more like your traditional bookclub. Basically here everyone is re-reading The Lymond Chronicles and other books by Dorothy Dunnett as well. There’s a list of which chapters are being read when, so it makes for coherent, in-topic discussion! Next week (4 to 10 May) the group is reading Chapters 5 to 9 of Part III of Checkmate. The group assumes you have read the books and everything is rife with spoilers.

reading_dunnett — An entry-level Lymond reading group. Basically, The Lymond Chronicles — for beginners! No fear of spoilers here; discussion will only go up to what you’ve read, so be specific. From the user info: “This is a community specifically for first-time readers of the Lymond Chronicles by Dorothy Dunnett (and perhaps later, The House of Niccolo too). New readers can discuss, ask questions, share joys (and perhaps frustrations) without fear of spoilers. Of course, veteran readers are welcome too, but discussions must not contain spoilers! Fanfic, etc

Since there have been hits on this blog looking for Lymond fanfic, let me give you a hand: there’s a masterlist of sorts here. I haven’t read much myself (I’m a bit afraid I’d be disappointed, really, after the depth of the books), but you might want to have a go at it! Also there are fics written for Yuletide; the list is here — I played with the filter out of curiosity, wondering how popular the fandom was.
