24-hour Read-a-thon: Hour 24

Whooo, twenty-four hours! Even if I didn’t spend all the time reading. Thanks so much for the encouragement, everyone! It was a lot of fun. I think I’ll be adding a whole lot of blog to my RSS reader tomorrow!

I’ll write the wrap-up post tomorrow. I’m afraid I won’t be very coherent today.

.

Here’s the end of event meme:

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
Hour nine, I think — it was about 4 am here at that time and I kept drifting off to sleep. I ended up napping from sometime after 4 am to a little past 6 am.

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?
Try The Sandman graphic novels by Neil Gaiman. Roald Dahl’s books are short and funny — try Matilda. If you like fantasy, I think Patrick Rothfuss’s The Name of the Wind might be a good pick too. On second thought, maybe that one’s too long — it’s over 700 pages. It’s a good story, though.

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?
I think this one was very well organised. (This is my first Read-a-thon, so I can’t really compare.) I don’t have any real suggestions, no.

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?
Moving the start time to noon GMT. I didn’t participate in the previous one because it ended too late on a Sunday night for me and I had to work the next day.

5. How many books did you read?
Three and a half.

6. What were the names of the books you read?
I finished Mat Som by Lat (a graphic novel), Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. I’m currently reading Ghostwritten by David Mitchell.

7. Which book did you enjoy most?
Mat Som, maybe. I’m enjoying Ghostwritten a lot, too.

8. Which did you enjoy least?
Fahrenheit 451 didn’t match up to my expectations. This always happens with me and classics — I expect too much!

9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?
Not a cheerleader. Next time, maybe.

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
Very likely, I think! I’ll probably be a reader again.

Here are the end totals, with Ghostwritten still unfinished!

  2. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (184 pages)

Go you! How amazing is it that you toughed out the whole thing? CONGRATS and a million pats on the back! And the Roald Dahl suggestion is very promising! I’m so glad you had fun!

Great job! I’m glad you had a good time. Roald Dahl is a really good choice, I read a book of ghost stories he edited and I really enjoyed it.
